LAUNCH ONCE, BROWSE TWICE

Rubi-e, LLC, a tiny Evanston, Illinois-based tech startup, has an idea that's twice as nice as your current browser. Called MultiBrowser, this easy-to-use tool maximizes your Internet experience, the Connected Crustacean was told today. MultiBrowser sports split-screen technology that divides your screen into two separate, adjustable windows that function independently of each other, giving you the features of two browsers in one.

Option buttons on the top of the screen let you toggle between top, bottom, or dual-browser views; drop-down menus (print, favorites, etc.) function for both browsers; and the adjustable mid-bar (separator) gives you the flexibility to decide how the screen is divided. The choice is yours--after all, it's your browser.

As Crusty discovered in his tests, MultiBrowser includes access to Rubi-e's News and Search site, which features streaming headline news and Go2Net's MetaCrawler search engine. Working offline, you can use MultiBrowser's unique features to easily view the contents (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; HTML and images) of multiple folders--simultaneously--on the same screen. This lets you quickly synthesize information from numerous Web sites and programs, the makers claim.

You can try MultiBrowser free 10 minutes at a time (it bombs out after that), or buy it outright from the Web site for $19.95. In any case, check it out at

You may discover that your old browser will never seem the same after you do.
